Our small team is vivacious, experienced and empathetic, and dedicate their work towards empowering children through literacy, writing, and reading skills.
Our Founder
Ms. Uma Selvakumaar is a Literacy Specialist and the founder of Readin’ Resource, a Language and Literacy coaching center for K-8 students. Ms. Uma began her career at the American International School as a resource specialist at the Learning Resource Centre to meet the needs of differently challenged children. As a special needs educator she had the opportunity to work with various grade levels in a literacy rich environment.

Among other credentials, her postgraduate training has been in “Guided Reading as an Instructional Approach in an Effective Literacy Program,” Lesley University, Boston, USA and “Teaching of Reading and Writing” at the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, Columbia University, New York, USA enhancing practical ways to teach higher level literacy skills and knowledge to design an effective program to suit the needs of all children in literacy and language education. She has participated in Jennifer Serravallo’s ‘Teaching Reading In Small Groups’ and Susan Bardsley’s ‘Implementing Phonics lessons and word study lessons Grades K-3.

Ms.Uma’s other areas of expertise is being certified and trained in working with children with Specific Learning Difficulties using the Orton Gillingham Multisensory Approach( Singapore) consisting of a multisensory, structured, phonetic teaching approach for reading and spelling, Strategies intervention Model for Reading, Comprehension ,Sentence Writing, and Informal Assessment Techniques. She is also a TEFL International TESOL Certified Facilitator ( Prague) trained to work with ESL Learners.
Ms. Uma is passionate about bringing the world to her literacy center to empower children to be globally competent, future responsible citizens of the world. She believes quality multicultural literature teaches children about the world beyond our communities while sharpening their critical thinking skills. She has attended ‘Educating Global Citizens’ Harvard Graduate School of Education, Boston, USA and Think Tank on Global Education: Empowering Global Citizens. She is also a Certified National Geographic Educator.
As part of the literacy and global education immersion program she aims at children writing to advocate, champion and voice their thoughts , views and opinions across the globe with their acquired reading , writing and communication skills.
Ms. Uma has spent over two decades helping children to be joyfully engaged in Reading meaningfully, Writing purposefully and evolving to be knowledgeable, empathetic, tolerant and respectful future citizens of the world.
